Busy, busy, busy!
Jul. 19th, 2005 08:20 pmNo rest for the wicked, they say. I must have been very, very wicked recently, because I'm up to my neck in Things That Need to Be Done. On one hand, it's energizing at times to always have something to do and keep me busy. On the other hand, much of it needs to be done within the next month or so. Two or three of the things need to be done this week. It'll get done, but let me tell you, I could really use a massage right about now.
This weekend was relatively uneventful, but considering how things have been lately, that was kind of nice. Since neither Tyson nor I had work on Saturday, we went over to Sherwood to check out the Sherwood Robin Hood Festival. We couldn't find the shuttle when we got to the Target parking lot, but a wonderful lady in garb gave us a ride to the site. Turns out that she was the organizer of the costumed part of the festival. When we actually got there, there were only a few people in costume. For the most part, the rest of it was more properly a Farmer's Market-esque setup. Not that it wasn't fun. Tyson bought himself a crossbow that launches ping-pong balls. But what, you might ask, as well you should, was the BEST part of the Sherwood Robin Hood Festival?
The best part was the root beer floats and strawberry shortcake. Served inside the local Masonic lodge. Which was also having an open house that day. The sign on the wall read: "You heard about the Masons in National Treasure. Now find out all of the things that we do within the community". The entire place was open so that you could look through it, and they had little notes on all of the chairs and on the altar, explaining what all of the duties of the different officers were. They also had an informational video going, and a table full of assorted pieces of Masonic literature.
Complete and utter geek that I am, I took pictures, watched the video, and took one of each of the pamphlets. One thing that I've learned through looking through the meeting room is that it's very difficult to steal from them. Their emblem is on everything. Even the filament of the lightbulbs surrounding the altar are shaped like the Masonic compass. I want one of those lightbulbs...
Today, Tyson and I went to Echoes In Time, a local aboriginal skills gathering. We just day-tripped down, but we had fun nonetheless. We were hoping to run into Tyson's sister Kara and her daughter Myriad, but they weren't there. Undeterred, we joined one of the workshops and carved wooden spoons. Mine is still a work in process. I also picked up some small deer bones for use in a future necklace which is still in the planning stages.
Oregon Country Fair pictures are forthcoming, as soon as I use up the film in the camera. I'm wondering if
aprilstarchild has any of hers uploaded or whatnot. Suffice it to say, though, that it was awesome. I had thirteen different people ask to take my picture, and got called "Goddess" quite a bit.
And now, this weekend, off to Seadog Nights! I still need to get things together for the event. But at least we have an air mattress now. My back is going to be so much happier with me for it. I still need to make another new pair of pants, and a couple pairs of drawers. Busy, busy, busy...
