Hats! Lots of hats!

I wonder how I missed the memo that bowler hats are/were in fashion for the winter!?! I picked up a couple of lovely ones, along with a brown and a gray felt basic hat blank, at Fred Meyer's and K-Mart for about $7 apiece. They'll be tarted up after the fashion of the hats that I made for [livejournal.com profile] seams_unusual and myself for our trip to Boston, and I already have ideas for a couple of designs. I've got a stack of eight blanks waiting for me, some reclaimed bits of fur and feathers to go on them, and several ideas. I want to go beyond the usual designs, and maybe offer some Tyrolean hats for the gentlemen along with the grander things that I make for the feminine sorts. I've got a foppish sort of bowler in mind, as well as a deep burgundy that's going to be trimmed with some recycled mink, a potential tricorne, a street urchin's hat, and an over-the-top military shako (which will, granted, stay with me, since it's for a costume that I'm going to be wearing for Kumoricon this year).

But I think that I have enough to put together some nice hats and have them ready for cons and craft fairs, should I desire a booth!

I wonder...

Does it still count as "cosplay" if you're dressing up as an actual historical figure?
