I wonder how I missed the memo that bowler hats are/were in fashion for the winter!?! I picked up a couple of lovely ones, along with a brown and a gray felt basic hat blank, at Fred Meyer's and K-Mart for about $7 apiece. They'll be tarted up after the fashion of the hats that I made for [livejournal.com profile] seams_unusual and myself for our trip to Boston, and I already have ideas for a couple of designs. I've got a stack of eight blanks waiting for me, some reclaimed bits of fur and feathers to go on them, and several ideas. I want to go beyond the usual designs, and maybe offer some Tyrolean hats for the gentlemen along with the grander things that I make for the feminine sorts. I've got a foppish sort of bowler in mind, as well as a deep burgundy that's going to be trimmed with some recycled mink, a potential tricorne, a street urchin's hat, and an over-the-top military shako (which will, granted, stay with me, since it's for a costume that I'm going to be wearing for Kumoricon this year).

But I think that I have enough to put together some nice hats and have them ready for cons and craft fairs, should I desire a booth!

Yes, there will most definitely be lots of pics of hats. And not just because I'm a Jägermonster fanatic. ;)

A woman after my own heart. I luuuuurve hats & only wish I could wear them always. In my own collection, a sage ren tall hat, black felt tricorn trimmed to within an inch of its life, pith helmet, a couple of awesome vintage marching band shakos, Italian ren pearl mesh headpiece, a vintage bowler, hmm, the box in storage and a box of baseball caps. Last year I sent a box of "chemo" hats to a friend's mother. Oh, and the lace-up top hat in my icon.

There must be Jager in the bloodline somewhere.

Oh, most definitely! I adore hats, and did even before I started reading our beloved comic, but had never actually made any before this fall. The happy results of my experiments are over here (http://singswithtrees.livejournal.com/197947.html#cutid1). Between [livejournal.com profile] seams_unusual and myself, we're hoping to run a small booth together selling steampunk and neoVictorian clothing and millinery.

Wow! Your pictures are great - it looks like you had so much fun. And the hats - the one w/the extended bird wings is amazing. Nice job on the ensembles. I recognize the Truly Victorian ripple jacket. I hope you & SU are successful in your venture - looks like you've both got the talent to carry it off.

BOWLERS!!!
