Tyson made up for his lack of punctuality yesterday by showing me a positively wonderful time at the beach.

He got here at about 11 or so, and we took off. Our first stop at the coast was Depoe Bay. We went inside the pirate-themed shop that they have there, which was somewhat odd in Victorian garb, but what the heck. He then took me next door to the saltwater taffy and assorted other sweets shop, and told me to pick out anything that I wanted. He paid for it. We then headed over to Nye Beach in Newport. I'd never been there, and so had no idea what was in store for me.

He led me up to a small shop called Tea and Tomes, and told me that that was where we were going. Regrettably, the place is going out of business by the end of this week, but we were able to get a reservation. During the hour-long wait before we could be seated, we poked around in a few of the art galleries. I bought a very pretty Victorian-looking bracelet, and he got me a very nice terra cotta foot scrubber. Different edges on both sides and everything. :) And when we went back to the tea shop, I noticed that their china was on sale, and bought a "tea for one" service--one of those little things where it's a small teapot that fits into the cup, which sits on the saucer. It's gorgeous and green, with little purple flowers, and was hand-painted in Romania. I'll have to post a picture, I suppose.

I can't tell you how much this meant to me. We had a classic high tea--the "tuppence special" for him, rosehips and hibiscus with a dash of lemon for me. With the little sandwiches, and clotted cream, and quince jelly, and orange cakes, and everything. Oh gods, but it was delightful. He held my chair out for me, took his hat off at the table, and was simply very, very romantic. He paid for the entire thing, and we ended up taking home five bags of their tea. (You can order it at Virtual Tea.) Afterward, we went over to my friend Katrina's Solstice party, where I had quite a bit of fun, and met a fascinating friend of hers from Turkey. His name is Fatih, and he's an awful lot of fun to talk with. I got to play around with her family's amazing new juicer (fresh pineapple juice with pulp!), and got a fair number of gifts, too. Not that I necessarily expect them, but it's nice to be thought of every now and again. Among those things that were included were a swizzle stick with a blown-glass octopus on the end, a set of small bottles of bath/massage oils, a very pretty hand-thrown black pottery vase deocrated with pictures of holly, and the soundtracks for Tank Girl and the original German cast recording of Hair. It's Hair...in German...it's amusing, and interesting to listen to, but somehow oh so wrong...

Anyhow, I'm feeling very, very loved. Happy holidays, everyone, however you choose to celebrate (or ignore) them. And no, my actual chronological birthday isn't until Boxing Day, the 26th.
