Gods, but I'm tired.
Oct. 12th, 2005 10:10 pmIt's been a weekend of many, many adventures. That leaves me very, very tired, but happy.
On Friday night, Tyson and I were originally going to attend the H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival. However, by the middle of the day he wasn't feeling all that great, so we stayed home for the early part of the evening. After a bit, during which he got some studying for his classes done, he started to feel better. We didn't make it to the Lovecraft Festival, but we did go to see Corpse Bride, and made a fun and, yes, romantic evening of it. Also had lots of fun hanging out with
medeivallass, whom I don't get to see nearly as often as I'd like to. I suppose I need to start hanging out at PSU when she's there...
Hayley, Tyson, and I got up bright and early on Saturday morning to go to the Song, Dance, and More Ithra that was going on at Pacific University. She'd never ridden on Trimet before, so it was fun showing her around. I must admit, though, that when I got to Pacific University, I was of two minds about things. On the one hand, there was the "Oh, this is going to be so neat! It's an event where I don't have to be in charge of an entire crew!" On the other hand, there was "Hmmm...I wonder how this event ties in with Arturo and the coterie..." It's just sort of annoying when my realities begin to overlap like this. At least I know other people like
mechalith who do the same thing.
Anyhow, the Ithra was very cool. I took "Basics of the Bardic Path", "The Well-Dressed Russian", "About Dance", "Beginning Hand-sewing", "Period Wordplay and Humor", and "Scottish Songs In Period". As a result, I've learned about period Russian costuming (with a wonderful stack of handouts to go along with it!), adding inflection into a song, how to dance a pavanne, how to make buttonholes by hand, Anglo-Saxon humor, and Scottish "mouth music". And all for $20! Game on Saturday night was productive, and lots of fun. Many jokes about "the Other Game" and the wizard PC who doesn't have the Knowledge: Arcana skill were made.
Monday was pretty uneventful, as was Tuesday during the day. I went to work, went to a meeting, and went over to Tyson's to get ready for the show. After some initial problems with my hair and jewelry, we took off. We still got to the show on time, despite getting over to pick up
mechalith and Katrina abotu half an hour than we'd originally planned. I'd never been to Sabala's, but I'd be more than happy to go back some time. They've got nifty murals. Plus, it amuses me to no end that the hand stamp for the evening that the Cruxshadows were playing was a unicorn, of the sort that one would expect to see in a third grade girl's room.
Written In Ashes was okay, but I honestly have to hope that the lead singer doesn't take himself seriously. He was quite over the top with regards to melodrama, and hammed it up rather dreadfully, I think. But that's just me. Ego Likeness was awesome, and I have no real words for the Cruxshadows. They were way, way more than I could possibly have expected. I didn't know that they come out into the audience to chat, dance, and sing, or that they were anywhere near as personable as they turned out to be. Tyson, Ryan, and I had heard them before, but I think that Katrina had only heard two or three songs of theirs, ever. The minute that the violin player appeared, she went up to the front of the crowd to drool over it. And stayed there for almost the entire show. Aside from my feet hurting like hell when I got home, I had a great time. They played some of my favorites--"Eurydice", "Deception", "Dragonfly", and "Marilyn, My Bitterness".
I'm still sore, but very, very happy. More later, possibly.
