Is completed! The pictures are terribly grainy, but here's what I've got, both with the veil down and the veil up:

The hat, in case you can't tell from the grainy pictures, has three pigeon wings, two ostrich feathers, lots of little fake flowers, and a starling and a pigeon skull on it. The veil is chiffon, and can be tied up around the brim. I've been wanting to make this hat for years, and now am very excited to have it finally done. It's going to be a bitch to ship to Boston, but *so* worth it for Halloween there!

Thank you! I'm very, very proud of my work, particularly since all that I used on this was a sewing machine and a glue gun.

I really need to come over and get some video of you two in costume before you leave!

Thanks! I was going to come over and show you, but wasn't certain whether or not you would still be up right now. We'll try to get together for a photo/video shoot before we leave.

I was out tonight. Vallie and I got a steak dinner from our friend Jaz for Vallie's birthday. We also watched Dollhouse.

Thank you! I've had the idea for this hat in my head for about five years now, and it's very satisfying to have it all done. Stare all you like. ^_^

And yes, once October's over, I would very definitely be open to the idea of commissions. What did you have in mind?

Sorry about the lateness! If it's okay, I will ping you again when I have something less vague in mind, but I would very much like a hat for a birthday next January. ♥ The whole thing -- with the wings and the feathers -- is just so beautiful.

Keen! I would love to make something for you! Sketches, Victorian illustrations, and photos are all great references, so if you think of something less vague, those would all be helpful. Do let me know, and we'll get started!

Awesome!

But don't let Maxim see it or he'll want your costume. ;)

Heh. I'd be afraid to watch him try to fit it. We're more likely than not very, very different dress sizes. ;)

Something tells me that wouldn't deter him. Not if it comes with a hat like that.

I shall be vigilant and remain on the lookout for possible Jager hat theft, then!

Beautiful work my friend the hat looks brilliant, just wonderful I think the combination of wings skulls, and the little flowers is great. It really looks like a real hat you could buy in the Victorian period, with a creepy edge which is appropriate ^_^. I'm really impressed with how you can get the all the pieces arranged and to stay on.

Hayley ^_^

Awww, thanks Hayley! I'm glad that it comes off as really Victorian. I feel really happy hearing that from someone else. ^_^ I think I went through about five or six gluesticks for the glue gun for this hat...

Hee hee that's a great icon my friend! That's a lot of gluesticks, but their sacrifice was well worth it!

But of course. Your hat should be arriving in the mail this week. Would you be free this coming Friday night or some time on Saturday to bring the pheasant skin over, learn to lace each other's corsets, and maybe give a little guidance on making bustles?

Amazing. The whole outfit, really. But I especially like the wings.

From: [identity profile] singswithtrees.livejournal.com
Thanks, Stern! I'm very happy with the wings. Moscow Hide and Fur supplied two of the three, and they're very good and cheap there. And you can't see it at all, but the wing in the back is held upright by a hinge of the sort that you'd see in a jewelry box or something of the sort. We had a spare one laying around in a drawer, and the wing had gotten a little folded, so I glued it to the back for extra support. Now it's "officially" steampunk, since it's got a little mechanical thing stuck on it.

Moscow Idaho?

Sorry I reply kind of late... Livejournal only seems to track replies to comments on my own journal....?
