Hallowe'en was surprisingly enjoyable. When we got to the Ash Street Saloon, Tyson dropped me off at the door and went off to find parking. There was no bouncer at the door, so I just strolled on in and sat down. There weren't a terrible lot of people there, and the only redeeming quality of the band that was on stage was that they were enthusiastic about playing music. Aside from that, they were far from the best thing that I'd ever heard. Fortunately, however, they weren't the band that I was there to see. Katrina and Marty showed up just as Ether Circus was setting up, and we went over to the bar and chatted for a bit. Tyson didn't get back until the band was just about ready to play their first song, but at least he didn't miss anything. They weren't bad at all, although I personally liked the next group, MCM Highway, rather a bit better (MCM Highway had a definite undercurrent of blues or west coast swing, which was nice). Tyson was dressed as an itinerant monk, Marty was Boognish (did I spell that right?) of Ween fame, I was Baron Samedi, and Katrina was costumed in a jester's outfit, which some of the little old ladies at the home that she works at found rather amusing. Let your mind wander from "Katrina" to "Hurricane Katrina" to "New Orleans" to "Mardi Gras". Most of her outfit was in shades of green, purple, and yellow/gold.

Tyson and Katrina danced/"moshed" (there was no mosh pit to speak of, just 10 people bouncing off of each other), and I danced for most of MCM Highway's set. I felt rather silly moving and randomly gyrating limbs to punk music while in a full suit with top hat. Undignified, I suppose you could say? For MCM Highway's set, they actually handed out printed programs to tell you what they'd be playing, which I thought was a nifty idea. The chemistry on the dance floor was interesting, to say the least. (More on this later, if anyone really wants too much information.)

After everything was said and done, I did feel in character, and connected with the spirit of the holiday. Many pictures were taken, Tyson juggled chunks of dry ice, the drummer of MCM Highway took his pants off mid-set (he was wearing boxers underneath), and I reaffirmed how much I really, truly hate the taste of beer. Add to that a full nights' sleep afterward, and I had a pretty good time!

I never did end up paying the $3 that I was supposed to have paid for the show, though.

As far as I'm concerned 10 people counts Molly. It's not like the number of people involved makes a difference, past about 5 or so. The pit I was in at the Metallica show I went to only had about 6 guys in it most of the time.

It wasn't really so much a pit as people dancing who occasionally remembered to bump into each other. I guess it does count, still. And there were some pretty hot girls in said crowd, which made it rather fun to watch.

Well no, because if they were doing anything that could be described as dancing conventionally then it's not a mosh pit, just people who're too close together to dance without collision.

Define "dancing conventionally".
